Hunger Games

Unless you are living under a rock, I'm sure you have seen, read, or at least heard of Hunger Games. It is a 3 book series by Suzanne Collins.

My students talked about it all last year, but I guess I never really paid that much attention. This year I decided that not only did I want to read the books that I enjoy and am naturally drawn to, but that I would read books that my students were interested in. I may be their math and science teacher, but I love nothing more than sitting down and talking books with my students. I could sit and do that all day and they have learned that. :)

First on my list this year of books my students were interested in was the Hunger Games series. I read the first page or two and thought to myself, I'm not going to like this. Boy was I wrong. They are awesome books. I loved every word of each one. It was very easy to see why they are so popular among my students and everyone else.

Before I had finished the first book, I bought the series for my brother and started planning our movie date.

We have been planning and waiting for March 23 for months it seems. He loved the books as much as I thought he would.

They are real page turners. You can't put them down.

I bought our tickets a couple of weeks ago. I was not going to risk waiting until the last minute to buy them.

The original plan was that I would be going with my brother, his girlfriend, her sister, our cousin, and his wife. Unfortunately our cousin and his wife were not able to come. Luckily though, my friend Laura and her friend Jenna were able to join us. I was happy to share our tickets with them.

We got to the theater about 45 minutes before the show started and the line was already wrapped all the way through the theater and back outside around the building. This theater has 18 screens that hold 435 people each. It's no small theater. We were in awe. I've never witnessed anything like this with a movie. There has never been a movie that I needed to see on opening day until this one.

Here we are waiting in line.

We realized right away that the chances of all 6 of us sitting together were pretty slim. Laura and Jenna went up and found two seats together while the other 4 of us sat in the 2nd row. Seth decided to go up and see if he could find us 4 seats together. He scored and we moved up to the very top. Much better than the very bottom.

The movie was excellent! I loved it! It was true to the book which was nice. That's all I'll say because I don't want to give anything away.

Seth and I so excited for the movie to start.

By the way...I cut my hair and highlighted it. What do you think?

May the odds be ever in your favor.

Spring Break 2012

I am on Spring Break this week and loving every minute of it. It hasn't quite been as productive as I had hoped thus far, but that's okay. It's only Tuesday.

Friday after school I was able to hold Sydney Faith for the first time. I went over to Jill's to take a gift to the girls and pick up some things I needed to borrow for a baby shower. Sydney is just the sweetest little thing. Andrew's mom says she looks a lot like Jill and Andrew did when they were babies. :)

Sunday I helped host a baby shower for my best friend from high school. I felt so blessed to be a part of the celebration. Miss Macy will be here in the next month. I can't wait to meet her and love on her. Mandy is going to be a wonderful mom.

In trying to move the pictures from my camera to my computer I accidentally deleted every picture I took at the shower. I feel sick! Just trust me that the mom to be was beautiful. :)

Yesterday I took the dogs to the vet for a minor surgery. I probably shouldn't even call it that. They had their teeth cleaned, but because they put them to sleep to do it they consider it a surgery. They also had their yearly shots and nails clipped. Poor Liberty Belle just doesn't do well with being put to sleep. She was not her self last night. At times you could tell she was struggling to control her body. She would lean against furniture because she couldn't stand. She was very calm and serious last night, which is complete opposite of her norm. She is usually wild and crazy. It just broke my heart. I'm thankful she woke up her crazy self this morning.

I have an appointment to get my hair cut and highlighted tomorrow. It is so blah and I'm ready for a change. I have an idea of what I want but haven't decided 100% for sure yet.

Right now I'm torn between two cuts. I'm hoping you can help me decide.

Walk This Way

Winter? Are you sure it's still winter? Though my calendar says spring doesn't arrive for another for another 2.5 weeks, Mother Nature seems to disagree. It has been absolutely beautiful outside. Thursday I even took my last class of the day outside to do their work. It was entirely too beautiful outside to be cooped up inside the classroom.

We've been talking about walking the dogs lately. They need the exercise, especially Liam Bailey. Boy is chunky! It was the perfect time to start with weather like this.

I never walk them at the same time by myself. It is too hard. They are not trained to walk "properly" on a leash.

Liam Bailey was first. He was very excited! That boy loves to go. And oh he is such a boy. He has to stop and sniff every mailbox in the neighboor hood. I'm not exaggerating. EVERY MAILBOX!!

A few stops signs needed to be sniffed as well.

After he thouroughly sniffs them, he of course has to mark them so that everyone knows he's been there. He then takes on step and starts kicking his hind legs trying to cover up his marking. It cracks me up!! We do this for every mailbox. Needless to say, it takes some time to walk Liam Bailey.
On our walk, he met some friends.

We think someone dropped off this St. Bernard in our neighborhood. Makes me sick to think someone would do that. She is such a pretty dog. She's a little skittish around humans, but she sure did like Liam Bailey. He was not a fan of her though. He just wanted to keep on walking.

A few houses down we met this little guy. Actually I didn't check to see if it was a little guy or a little girl. Liam liked him though. They went in circles sniffing each other until I pulled Liam away. They played and walked together until we got back to our house.

I left Liam at home and headed out with Liberty. Liam was not happy about that. I could hear him crying inside the house as we walked down the street.

Walking Liberty is night and day compared to walking Liam. She is a headstrong leader. You can't walk fast enough to suit her. Honestly, it's more like her walking me than me walking her. I have to run to keep up with and I can't do that very long. She is all business. No time to stop for anything.
She did manage to stop long enough for a picture.

She didn't mind the St. Bernard. She wasn't real interested in her, but Lib didn't mind her sniffing. We let them get aquainted for a few minutes before walking on.

They both love to go on walks. Makes me feel guilty that we don't do it more often. it's really nice when all four of walk. Andrew and Liberty run ahead while Liam Bailey and I take our sweet little time.

They are my perfect little family. :)

And so I walk in the Lord's presence as I live here on earth!
