My Current Smile's Last Day

Tomorrow is the big day.

I will be having four teeth extracted.  I'm scared.  Yet at the same time I feel like I'm making it a bigger deal than it really is.  I love my dentist and know he will take good care of me.

I plan to take an anxiety pill before my appointment.  I've never taken anything like that before.  I'm hoping it will help me relax.

Since I have no idea how eating will go with four teeth missing and I'm getting braces as soon as I'm all healed, I decided that today was clearly meant for eating anything I want.  From what I can tell I'm going to be living off of mashed potatoes for the next few months.

My dad and granny surprised me and took me to Las Playitas for lunch today.

It was yummy as always.

It's an extra bonus that I was able to get out of the house.  Today has been our third snow day in this round of icy weather.

I'm documenting this journey through adult braces in every way possible.  I'm posting pictures on Instagram, I'm blogging about it, and I'm even keeping a video diary.  My first video is up on Youtube now.

Somehow documenting everything with the hope that it will help someone else with the decision to get adult braces helps make everything a little easier.

Today is the last day I will have this smile and all of these teeth.

Tomorrow I lose the fourth tooth from the front on both sides top and bottom.

(Disclaimer: I was wearing a hat.  They made me take it off)

  1. You go, girl! You're going to do GREAT - and I know that having teeth extracted isn't an ideal way to spend your day - but all in all, it's not a big deal. Just stay up with your pain meds and REST :)

I will be praying for you tomorrow!!!!

I've already had braces - but I kind of wish I could get them again! :)

  2. I am with ya on needing an anxiety pill! Four teeth?!? That scares me! yikes! LOL! I am praying the procedure goes well and I think your smile is already gorgeous but proud of you for doing something for you. I remember when I was in the 11th grade my dad asked at the dinner table what me and my brother (who was in college) thought about him getting braces. I remember I laughed and said..."Uh you are 42!" His teeth were AWFUL! I never knew how much they bothered him until that moment. He had several teeth pulled to make room because his mouth was crowded and then he got braces. He never regrets getting them at such a late age. :) hugs!! xoxo

  3. You’re going to have four of your teeth removed? Aw! That sounds horrible! Pulling out of teeth is really hurtful, especially when the anesthesia wears off. Not to mention that the healing process can be a torture. But if it’s necessary to pull them away to enhance your smile, go for it!

  4. How did the procedure go, Elaina? I hope it didn't hurt as much! I remember when I had some of my teeth extracted and the best I could handle was two at a time, while you endured four! I wish you a quick recovery, Elaina! Take care!

  5. It’s good to hear how much you trust your dentist. Others would’ve already ran away after hearing about the extraction of four teeth in one go. But in the end, you had to go through with it, lest it becomes more problematic in the future. No pain, no gain, as they say; and that also applies to getting a beautiful smile. I hope the procedure went well. All the best!
